The Chippendale Fresh Food Co-Operative, or The Co-Op, is an initiative of the forward-thinking people of the Chippendale community.

Concerned by soaring fuel costs, the long distance that ‘fresh’ food had travelled to get to the table and the dominance of the major retailers (and the poor quality of their produce!) a small group of volunteers organized the Food for the Future Fair in October 2008.

The overwhelming success of the Fair showed the level of community support for the ideals promoted by the Fair: support for local growers; the need for people to reconnect with the food they eat; the importance of maintaining local and sustainable sources of food.

Clearly, there was a need for a Food for the Future Fair every day of the year.

And so The Co-Op was born.
