Aims and guidelines of the
Chippendale Fresh Food
Co-operative Ltd
- to reduce Chippendale’s
carbon footprint by providing food that has travelled less than
160 kilometres (100 miles) where possible;
- to provide food that is
not grown within the 160 kilometre area from the closest possible
source;
- to only source food from
producers that share the Co-op’s aims of ethical and sustainable
farming practices;
- to improve its members’
health by providing fresh food (within one week of its harvest for
perishable fruit and vegetables);
- to improve its members’
health by only supplying food that is in season;
- to provide its members
with more information and choice in the food they consume;
- to provide its members
with value for money, as food will be purchased from a community
based, not-for-profit organisation;
- to support small
producers from the Sydney basin as they struggle to survive in
times of globalisation, economic uncertainty and the duopoly run
by Coles and Woolworths;
- to encourage other inner
city suburbs to think about the environmental and health
consequences of the ways we currently purchase food;
- to allow full consumer
choice by providing produce that is either organically certified,
chemical free or conventionally grown. Organic and chemical free
status will be certified by the Co-op;
- to ensure that
conventional grown producers will be inspected by the Co-op to
ensure price, quality, locality and integrity aligns with its
aims;
- to ensure that all
processed foods have the place of origin of all ingredients
identified, as well as the place of processing/packaging;
